August Grocery Shopping and Meal Planning: Week 1

August Week 1 Groceries

Went grocery shopping today.  Went to the ethnic store and bought:

4 Bananas @ $.49/lb = $.64
2 Apples @ $.33/lb = $.39
3 Peaches @ $.49/lb = $.74
Okra @ $1.99/lb = $.36
6 Raisin Bread Buns (14 oz.) = $2.99
2 Bottles Mango Drink (33.8 oz); @ $.99 = $1.98 + $.20 deposit
Grapes @ $.79/lb = $1.62
1 Cucumber = $.20
2 pkg. Honey Roasted Turkey cold cuts; 4 oz. pkg, @ $.50 = $1.00

My total came to $10.12

I went over budget the last couple of months because I  budgeted for 1 and bought for 2, as I shared some of what I bought with daughter.  Daughter will be home for 10 days, later this month, and, no doubt, I'll send some stuff with her when she goes back!  So I might go over my budget again, or, perhaps, I'll take $25 from my "miscellaneous" category to augment my August grocery budget of $75.  We'll see.

Anyway, grocery spending so far this month:  $10.12

Amount left in August grocery budget:  $75 - $10.12 =   $64.88

I will need to buy some milk and maybe some bread/rolls.  Another store is having cantaloupe for $.25/lb and I am thinking of going there tomorrow to get a cantaloupe and I can buy the milk and bread from there.

I still have some chicken curry in the fridge (enough for 2 meals) and most of the chicken breast that I roasted.  I can make some chicken stir-fry with some of it and have the rest sauted, with vegetables and baked potatoes, etc.  If I buy bread rolls, I can made sub sandwiches with the turkey cold cuts I bought today and they'll make good lunches to take to the office, along with some fruit.  I also have the frozen fish I bought last month and the 1 lb. package of 4 hamburger patties my neighbor gave me, in the freezer, if I want a change from chicken.  So, those are my meal plan options for the week.

Today, I did laundry, changed the sofa dust sheets, tidied the family room, cleaned both bathrooms and took my friend out to lunch to celebrate her birthday.  After lunch, she came home with me and we spent the rest of the afternoon chatting.  Later, she went to the grocery store with me and then, I dropped her off at her home and came home.  Spent the rest of the evening doing laundry and video chatting with daughter and writing this blog post.  I need to run the dishwasher, either tonight or tomorrow morning.

Today, I am grateful for:

- A working washing machine and electricity to run it
- Flavored coffee creamers
- Lunch out with a friend
- Grocery deals
- Cool evenings after the heat of the day

How was your Sunday?  Did you have a good day?  Have you planned your grocery budget for August?

My Sunday was good. It was so beautiful when we got up, we decided to go on a drive to a beautiful waterfall.
